How we will take over the world
(Or at least make the complicated parts a lot less annoying.)
01 · The problem
Why the Gorilla is Grumpy
Some of the best ideas are born inside passionate communities.
The retro gaming and arcade community is a perfect example. People build incredible machines, invent clever solutions, share knowledge, write tools, create hardware, and spend countless hours helping each other make things work.
That spirit is a huge part of why Grumpy Gorilla exists.
But passion also has a habit of exposing friction.
Building a custom arcade cabinet should be about creativity, design and the love of gaming. Instead, it can mean juggling a dozen independent tools, digging through years of forum threads and wrestling with overlapping configuration files just to make controllers, LEDs, marquees, frontends and games cooperate.
And arcade systems are far from the only place where this happens.
Game development, streaming, digital creation and other technical hobbies are full of brilliant tools and brilliant people — but also repetitive work, fragmented workflows and problems that should have been solved better by now.
That makes the Gorilla grumpy.
02 · Our mission
Automate the Boring Stuff
We build software for the parts that get in the way.
Sometimes that means taking a complicated arcade setup and turning it into one coherent workflow.
Sometimes it means helping a game developer generate environments, assets and gameplay systems in a few clicks instead of rebuilding the same foundations from scratch.
Tomorrow it might mean giving a streamer an automated producer that reacts to what is happening live.
The products may be different, but the idea behind them is the same:
Remove friction, automate repetitive work and give people better tools to create with.
We do not want to simply wrap existing scripts in another interface. We like looking at a problem from the ground up, combining the best ideas that already exist with our own, and asking:
How should this actually work if we designed it today?
03 · How we build
Built With Communities, Not Just For Them
We have enormous respect for the communities around the things we build.
A great deal of innovation comes from people experimenting in garages, forums, Discord servers, GitHub repositories and hobby projects simply because they care deeply about what they are making.
We want Grumpy Gorilla to be part of that.
That means listening carefully, learning from what people have already discovered and giving credit to the ideas and ecosystems that made our products possible.
But listening does not mean simply following.
We also have our own ideas about how these problems can be solved, and we are willing to build things differently when we believe there is a better way.
The goal is the combination:
Community knowledge, independent thinking and relentless experimentation.
04 · Our vision
More Creating. Less Fighting With Tools.
Technology should expand what people can create, not become the thing they spend all their time maintaining.
We want to give back the hours lost to repetitive setup, configuration and troubleshooting.
For an arcade builder, that means more time designing and playing.
For a game developer, it means getting from an idea to something playable dramatically faster.
For a creator or streamer, it means spending more time creating and less time operating the machinery around the creation.
And sometimes it simply means generating a really good-looking pile of rocks without spending the afternoon modelling every stone by hand.
That is the kind of innovation we care about.
Not technology for the sake of technology.
Technology that gets out of the way.
05 · The promise
The Bootstrapped Promise
Grumpy Gorilla is an independent, self-funded software company.
We do not answer to venture capitalists, quarterly growth targets or an investor roadmap.
That gives us the freedom to build patiently, experiment, support smaller niches and keep improving products long after the first release.
We can listen to the people actually using our software and make decisions based on what makes the product better — not what makes the next funding presentation look better.
We are building a growing family of digital products, tools and ideas around one simple principle:
Make complicated things simpler. Make creative things more fun.
No bloatware.
No corporate nonsense.
Just useful ideas, well-built software and a slightly grumpy gorilla.
